Message from the Chief
The policy manual of the Mount Shasta Police Department represents the policies and procedures established to guide the operations of this organization.
In order to manage the Police Department, and in consideration of the ever-changing nature of law enforcement, the Chief of Police may authorize exceptions or variances to specific policies where such action does not conflict with legal precedent or mandates.
Please note that due to periodic amendments to a variety of laws (Government Code, CA Penal Code, Business and Professions Code, CA Vehicle Code, etc.) as well workplace practice the following manual is subsequently updated throughout the year as is necessary and/or required by statute.
2022 Mount Shasta Police Department Military Equipment Use Policy
The Mount Shasta Police Department does participate in the 10-33 Program. The department currently has military style patrol rifles in inventory, as is noted in the attached inventory log. Beyond ammunitions the Mount Shasta Police Department has not sought to use any additional military items or equipment: Military Equipment Policy
California Government Code §7071(b) requires that law enforcement agencies submit a proposed Military Equipment Use Policy to their governing body for approval. This is further required by Mount Shasta City Ordinance 2.80.
California Government Code §7070 provides a list of equipment types that are considered to be “military equipment” for purposes of this policy requirement, and this Military Equipment Use Policy includes information for any such equipment types that are possessed by the Mount Shasta Police Department, or reasonably likely to be deployed in Mount Shasta by other law enforcement partners.
Annual Military Equipment report for 2023:
Pursuant to Mount Shasta Municipal Code section 2.80. The Mount Shasta Police Department has the following “Military Equipment”.

• H&R Arms, Model M14 - 7.62mm S/N 1001497
• Winchester, Model M14 - 7.62mm S/N 1241545
• Unk. Make, Model M14 – 7.62mm S/N 581397
• Winchester, Model M14 – 7.62mm S/N 1036229
During the year one Colt AR 15 was in service at the beginning of the year that was taken out of service.
There were no other Military equipment items in service for the remainder of the year.

All other weapons were stored in a double locked area and were not used.
There was no annual cost associated with the storage and use of the equipment.
There were no complaints or concerns received during the year regarding the equipment.
There are no plans to acquire any additional equipment in 2024.
