The Animal Control Department operates within the Mt. Shasta Police Department and handles all domestic animal calls within the City Limits of Mt. Shasta. Dog licenses are issued by this Department every June, delinquent in July and are renewable on an annual basis.

NEW 2011 LAWS regarding service animals. For information contact Animal Control at (530) 926-7540.  The City of Mt Shasta does not offer specific service animal tags.

Please be courteous of your neighbors and community by using a leash and picking up after your pets. Carry plastic gloves and a bag just in case!

Animal tethering is dangerous to your pet and punishable by fines and/or jail. Please use a trolley line or kennel.

Animals are not allowed downtown for any reason during special events (except service animals). Please leave your pets at home where they can remain cool and comfortable in the summer heat.

The City of Mt. Shasta Animal Control Officer enforces California Animal Law. The City contracts with the Siskiyou Humane Society for rescue, impounds and adoptions, microchip implants, pet owner education services and pet training.

The Animal Control Officer responds to:

  • Public complaints such as Dog Bites or violations of Leash Law
  • Animal Rescue
  • Conflict resolution
  • Interdepartmental requests

Dog License Fees

Spayed or Neutered: $12.00
Senior Citizen Altered Rate: $5.00
All un-altered: $25.00

You must show proof of current rabies vaccination and spay or neuter certificates to obtain the discounted rates.

The Siskiyou Humane Society located in the City of Mt. Shasta has a no-kill policy. Please come in and visit the animals available for adoption. Give a pet a good home. You can also foster a pet to socialize it for its new home. Call the Society today at (530) 926-4052 or drop by 1208 North Mt. Shasta Boulevard.
